This past Monday, Jonathan had his first taste of cereal. He liked it very much, as you can see from the pictures. He is eating like a champ and no doubt will be gobbling up his share of the grocery bill in no time.

Andrew begged me for a taste, so I let him have some. I don't think he liked it very much...what do you think?!

Tomorrow night for dinner we are having "Killer Shrimp." This is a recipe that was introduced to us by our pastor in MA. It's a restaurant in L.A. (that's Los Angeles, not Lower Alabama) and all they serve is shrimp and bread, and your choice of beverage. But it's....you guessed it...KILLER shrimp. I hope I don't see that face on Andrew again tomorrow night.

This weekend is supposed to be around 80 once more. I guess I should break down and paint my toenails. I was hoping to let them hide inside socks a little longer but I can't stand to leave my flip-flops in the closet when it's so warm outside! Every single day, we have a conversation about when the pool is going to open. There's really no point in telling an (almost) four year old that it's not summer when it's 80 degrees outside. It really makes no sense to him.

Here's a recommendation for you...the readings of Winnie the Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, as recorded by Peter Dennis. They are available at www.blackstoneaudio.com, and sometimes you can find them at www.amazon.com or www.booksamillion.com. He has also recorded When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six, but we don't have those yet. Anyway, he does a great job recreating the original Pooh stories, before they were all twisted up by Disney. We've come to a whole new understanding of Eeyore, for one! These CDs are almost always playing in our van, and David and I frequently find ourselves entranced right along with the kids.

  1. Poor Andrew!! ONce you've tasted the good stuff, there's no going back, is there?!

I've also been asking everyday when the pool is going to open, but no one answers me...I think that's good, right?!

YES! It's toenail season! Paint those nails girl! I'll let you borrow my green polish in honor of St. Paddy Day if you'de like! ;)

  2. Even some of us up here in the not-so-white North have recently gone for the painted toes, though not in any real hope of showing them off anytime soon. It is, however, windbreaker rather than a winter coat weather today...I even opened a few windows!

To add to the "never thought you'd say" list: "Mara, don't chew on your chair!"

  3. Nicole, I'm surprised you haven't broken into the pool yet. Ben would help you if you promised to open up the "wittul pool."

Tracy, what temperature merits opening the windows where you are?

  4. Well, today it got up to 60! At this rate, it will be a year where those who wear their Irish knit sweaters to the St. Patrick's Day parade on Sunday will be sweltering.

If I'm really desperate, I will sometimes open the windows if it gets in the mid-fifties. No need today, though; the girls and I went for a walk after naps before Colin came home for dinner (Rhiannon on her first stroller trip), then they went straight into the tub, as Mara had gotten literally filthy while playing outside. Everyone has a bit of spring fever; the neighborhood kids were climbing up the Cascade this afternoon after school.

You'd think they'd open your pool by temperature rather than by date...it isn't as though everyone down south waits 'til Easter for white shoes, either!

  5. Yeah, it's dumb. I think they wait until Memorial Day and close it at Labor Day. So they miss about 2-3 months of swimming weather. Or in Nicole's case, tanning weather!

Today's our day for getting filthy as we will be planting and mulching in the yard!

  6. Well, if there's a rumor that someone has broken into the pool, it wasn't me and Ben! ;)
